On Sunday, March 5, over 300 women gathered at the Julius Banquet Centre in North York for Festa Della Donna – an annual celebration of International Women’s Day that raises funds for important women’s causes. This year, organizers chose to support the Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Care Centre at Women’s College Hospital.
Now in its 27th year, Festa Della Donna was started by a small group of women from the Italian community who wanted to celebrate International Women’s Day with their friends and family while making a difference for those in need. Over the years, the event has evolved into an amazing fundraiser – and the women who were the original organizers have passed the responsibility on to their daughters.
In Italy, International Women’s Day – or Festa Della Donna – is a popular holiday widely celebrated by the public. Celebratory events are held throughout the country and in many other parts of the world – including in Toronto, which is home to a significant population of Italian-Canadians.
The funds raised from this event will help the Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Care Centre at WCH continue to provide world-leading care to victims and survivors of sexual or intimate partner violence. When it was established in 1984, the SA/DVCC was the first centre of its kind in Ontario; today, it serves as the provincial hub for the province’s 35 clinics dedicated to care for victims and survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence.
Thank you so much to the organizers of Festa Della Donna, Stephanie, Cindy and Nadia, for their hard work to host a successful and impactful event! We’re so appreciative of their incredible contribution of time and talent in putting this event together.
