Celebrating Pride!

June marks Pride Month in Toronto - a time to celebrate and stand in solidarity and ally-ship with the 2SLGBTQ+ community. At Women’s College Hospital (WCH) and WCH Foundation, we are proud to be championing health equity for everyone. Through programs across our hospital, we are improving access to safe and compassionate care for the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

Although we couldn’t celebrate together in person, staff and physicians at Women’s College Hospital (WCH) and WCH Foundation were proud to participate in Pride Toronto’s virtual parade by sharing a special video message on behalf of our hospital.

You can watch the video featuring staff and physicians from our COVID-19 Assessment Centre by clicking the thumbnail below:

Thank you, Pride Toronto, for inviting WCH and WCH Foundation to virtually march, rally and celebrate with you this year! We are so grateful for your partnership and shared commitment to creating a more equitable world for everyone.

Kevin's Story: How WCH helped him to be himself and live his truth

From the time he was a young child, Kevin knew he should have been born in a male body. “I always knew I had been given the wrong gender at birth,” he says. “And I always wanted others to see me how I see myself for who I am and not who they want me to be.”

Read more to learn how, through care from Transition-Related Surgeries Program at WCH and generous support from The Pride and Remembrance Compassionate Fund, Kevin was able to undergo the life-changing top surgery he needed to live his life to the fullest.

Join us in Toasting to Pride!

This month, the LCBO has been toasting to Pride by fundraising to support healthcare programs, research and the greatest needs of Women’s College Hospital. Raise a little help for women’s mental health!

Limited registration spots are still available for this year’s Run for Women, and you can still raise a little help for women’s mental health by making a donation to the Women’s College Hospital Foundation Trailblazers team today!

$35 from each registration and all fundraising proceeds from the Toronto Run for Women, brought to you by the Shoppers Drug Mart LOVE YOU program will directly support the Department of Psychiatry at Women’s College Hospital – the largest clinical and research program of its kind with a focus on the unique mental health needs of women.

With your generous support, we can help more women access to the life-changing care they need and deserve. Thank you!

The Walmart Foundation commits to advancing equity for Black and Indigenous Canadians

Women’s College Hospital Foundation extends a big thank you to Walmart Canada for helping to support research at WCH and create career-launching opportunities for Black women in health sciences through their generous gift to The Emily Stowe Society.

Walmart Canada's support of Women’s College Hospital was part of an extraordinary $20 million USD collective commitment from the Walmart Foundation to advancing racial justice and creating opportunities for Black and Indigenous people in Canada over the next five years.

Simone Vigod

Dr. Simone Vigod, chief of psychiatry at WCH, led a new study that found that postpartum mental health visits spiked by more than 25% during the pandemic. Findings from this population-based study are creating a better understanding of how the pandemic has affected mental health and helping to inform health system solutions for postpartum parents.
