Build what comes next

At Women’s College Hospital, we are transforming healthcare at every level by redesigning how care is delivered, rewriting what medicine knows and reimagining the healthcare system.
With philanthropy, these three priorities can shape the future of healthcare for generations to come.

01

redesign

Transforming treatment and care

Healthcare wasn’t designed around women’s bodies, needs or lives. Women’s College Hospital
is changing that.

We’re redesigning care around the whole person, connecting prevention, research, diagnosis
and treatment so people get the right care, sooner.

With donor support, we can accelerate breakthroughs in cancer, mental health and cardiac care
and expand approaches that improve lives.

The best cancer treatment is preventing cancer in the first place.
Women’s College Hospital is transforming cancer care by bringing research, prevention and clinical care together. From leading a national effort to eliminate cervical cancer in Canada by 2040 to advancing hereditary cancer risk assessment, genetic testing and research into why some breast cancers return, we are helping more women understand their risk and act sooner.

The future we are building

Cancer prevented or detected earlier, risk assessment and genetic testing integrated into care and more women and families living beyond cancer with confidence.

Mental healthcare should change with every stage of a woman’s life.

Women’s College Hospital is home to one of the largest programs in Canada dedicated to the mental healthcare needs of women. By bringing research, clinical expertise and compassionate care together, we are advancing new approaches to care that reflect how mental health is shaped by hormones, reproductive life stages, trauma and other life experiences.

The future we are building

Earlier intervention, better outcomes and mental healthcare that supports women through every stage of life.

No woman’s heart attack should ever be missed.

Home to Canada’s first cardiac assessment and rehabilitation program designed exclusively for women, Women’s College Hospital is advancing the next generation of cardiac research and care. We are exploring how heart health intersects with menopause, reproductive health, pregnancy and aging to build better approaches to prevention, diagnosis and treatment.

The future we are building

Heart disease recognized sooner, care designed around women from the start and more women living longer, healthier lives.

02

rewrite

Advancing research and discovery

For most of medical history, the evidence behind healthcare was built without women in it. We still see the consequences today in medications dosed for male bodies, diagnostic criteria modelled on male symptoms and conditions affecting millions of women that remain understudied and underfunded.

At Women’s College Hospital, we are asking the questions medicine missed and building the
evidence needed to change care.

Because the evidence will not rewrite itself. The next generation of diverse research leaders will.
And philanthropy can help make it possible.

Bold questions need freedom to be pursued.
Women’s College Hospital is building one of Canada’s leading communities of research chairs dedicated to advancing the health of women. It is a model with a powerful legacy, from advancing our understanding of the BRCA genes to pioneering research on aging, menopause and midlife health. Through the Menopause Horizon Study, the Atkinson Chair in Women’s Health Research is creating the Canadian evidence base on menopause and midlife health that generations of women have gone without.

The future we are building

Research that answers overlooked questions, evidence that transforms care and discoveries that improve the health of women for generations to come.

Treatments designed for women must be tested with women.

Clinical trials shape the drugs, treatments and technologies that become standard care, yet women have long been underrepresented in this research. Through Women’s PLACE, Women’s College Hospital is changing that by building clinical trials around women from the start, expanding opportunities to participate and ensuring their experiences are reflected in the evidence. This stronger path from discovery to patient care will help bring better treatments and innovations to people sooner.

The future we are building

Clinical trials that reflect the lives of women, treatments informed
by stronger evidence and more equitable healthcare for everyone.

Talent is everywhere. Opportunity is not.

Medicine cannot answer the questions it has overlooked without researchers who bring different perspectives, experiences and ways of thinking to their work. Through the Emily Stowe Scholars Program, early career support and postdoctoral training, Women’s College Hospital is creating opportunities for the next generation of scientists, clinicians and innovators, including people from historically underrepresented communities, to build careers and help shape the future of healthcare.

The future we are building

More diverse voices leading discovery, more researchers asking bold new questions and more breakthroughs that reflect the lives and experiences of women.

03

Reimagine

Reshaping the future of the healthcare system

Better healthcare isn’t just about improving the system we have. It’s about imagining what
comes next.

Women’s College Hospital is creating new approaches to menopause, gynecologic and pelvic
care and investing in technology that helps people get answers and treatment sooner.

With donor support, we can turn bold ideas into proven solutions and help shape a healthcare
system that works better for women and everyone, and because of that, better for everyone.

We opened a menopause clinic before it was trendy.
Every woman who lives long enough will experience menopause, yet too many struggle to find informed care. Women’s College Hospital opened Canada’s first aging and menopause research lab and continues to redefine what menopause care can be. By expanding access to specialized care, building the evidence on menopause and midlife health and sharing trusted knowledge with women and healthcare providers, we are helping change how menopause is understood and treated.

The future we are building

More women finding trusted support close to home, more healthcare providers confident in menopause care and better evidence shaping how menopause is understood and treated, so no woman navigates menopause alone.
We diagnose endometriosis in days, not decades.
Endometriosis, fibroids and chronic pelvic pain affect millions of women, yet too many wait years for answers and specialized care. Women’s College Hospital is bringing together expertise in gynecology, pain management and other disciplines to create faster paths to diagnosis and treatment, provide coordinated care and advance our understanding of pain in women’s bodies.

The future we are building

Endometriosis diagnosed in days, not decades, women’s pain
believed when they first describe it and more women living without years of unanswered questions.

No woman should wait for the answer her body needs.
The right diagnosis and treatment depend on having the right tools at the right time. Women’s College Hospital is investing in advanced technology that helps our teams detect disease earlier, make more informed decisions and provide safer, more personalized care. This includes Acessa, a minimally invasive treatment for uterine fibroids, advanced gynecologic laser technology, breast specimen imaging and expanded MRI and CT capacity.

The future we are building

Earlier answers, less invasive treatment, more precise care and more patients benefiting from advanced technology and the exceptional care they deserve.

The future of healthcare for women starts here.

“Women’s has always been a place that gets things done for women. While other hospitals do great things, Women’s does it for us.”
